Fortunately

When I was small I had a favorite book. It was Fortunately by Remy Charlip

It started like this:

” Fortunately, Ned was invited to a surprise party.
Unfortunately, the party was a thousand miles away.
Fortunately, a friend loaned Ned an airplane.
Unfortunately, the motor exploded.
Fortunately, there was a parachute in the airplane.
Unfortunately, there was a hole in the parachute….”

Fast forward to 2021.

Fortunately, we live in a first world country. Unfortunately, there is a worldwide pandemic. Fortunately, we have a vaccine. Unfortunately, we have Delta…

We have the pandemic. We have fires and hurricanes and heat waves and drought. We have “patriots” with guns and anti-maskers.

There have been dark times throughout history. They don’t last forever. We just happen to be living during this one. It is a bit overwhelming some days.

Fortunately there are some very good people still doing very good things in their own small ways.

I think I will stop there.
